George Washington Township, New Jersey has seen its fair share of crime and tragedy. Most recently, a young boy is missing from his home and the tenacious Detective Claire Goodnite is eager to find him.

"Sure, we can walk into that bridal shop, and we can go get those tapes, but you do it with the knowledge that I’m done fucking around. So, pick a date, a dress and some fucking flowers, I’ll be there."

Where do I start? This story is tinged with mystery / drama / romance / eroticism / comedy, so it is a story that you will not be able to stop reading.

We started with Claire, a very independent girl who is Detective in her town, fighting day after day with the discontent of her brother Liam, who is also her boss, and her father, she usually takes care of domestic cases, the whole town knows who she is because she was kidnapped at age 6 and miraculously founded in the woods near her home, so when a new case of a missing child arrives and her brother reluctantly assigns it to her, the memories of that fateful day begin to return, but still she is willing to find the child's kidnapper and will do it even if her brother tries to get her out of the case.

That's when Wes comes in... a sexy FBI agent who is also Liam's best friend and Claire's eternal Crush, to whom she gave him her virginity twelve years ago and he, in exchange, broke her heart by telling her that he did not want her in his life because she has always had nightmares and for him that was a lot of drama, but now, after so many years, he is determined to be with her at all costs and trying to protect her from the memories that this current case may bring her. So he offers to accompany her everywhere, and takes advantage to go back into her mind, in her heart and obviously in her bed.

So Claire has a hard time trying to solve the case, while suffering from nightmares for the memories of her abduction, fighting against the authority and criticism of her brother and trying to keep Wes very far so as not to fall in love again and stay as complete she can.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Really the first thing I saw in this book was its beautiful cover, then the review left me captivated and when I opened it I realized it was going to be a very good trip.

This story could be like many others, but it really has a life of its own, perhaps in a short time many things happen and suddenly I felt the weight that Claire carried on her shoulders.

This story also talks about a very big and horrible problem like the disappearance of a child... really treats history as it is, as something ugly and disastrous, Claire's memories at some point were a lot to me to handle and I suffered with her as well as with the boy.

Buuuuuut also loved Wes, the part where they go to the bridal shop is my favorite, really, he is a very human character, he is not the typical hero who saves the princess (she can save herself, she is very badass) and has very human mistakes... and very foolish others that make him NOT perfect at 100% on the scale of book boyfriends, but very very perfect for someone real.

If you like books where the prince does not always rescue the princess and you like the mystery, this is your book, for me it is a 4.5 out of 5 stars, I can’t wait for the continue of this series.

“seguro, podemos entrar a esa tienda de novias, podemos conseguir esas cintas de video, pero lo haces con el conocimiento de que ya terminé de joder por ahí. Así que, escoge una fecha, un vestido y unas putas flores, ahí estaré”

¿Por dónde comienzo? Esta historia tiene tintes de misterio, drama, romance, erotismo y comedia por lo que es una historia que no vas a poder dejar de leerlo.

Comenzamos con Claire, una chica muy independiente que es Detective en su pueblo, lucha día con día con el descontento de su hermano Liam, que además es su jefe, y de su padre, ella generalmente  se encarga de casos domésticos, todo el pueblo sabe quién es ella porque a los 6 años fue secuestrada y milagrosamente fue hallada en el bosque cerca de su casa, por lo que cuando llega un nuevo caso de un niño desaparecido y se lo asigna su hermano a regañadientes, comienzan a regresar los recuerdos de ese fatídico día, pero aún así ella está dispuesta a encontrar al secuestrador del niño y lo hará aunque su hermano intente sacarla del caso.

Ahí es cuando entra Wes… un sexy agente del FBI que además es el mejor amigo de Liam y el eterno Crush de Claire, al cual doce años antes le entregó su virginidad y él, a cambio, le rompió el corazón diciéndole que no la quería en su vida porque ella siempre ha tenido pesadillas y para él eso era mucho drama, pero ahora, después de tantos años, él está decidido a estar con ella cueste lo que cueste e intentando protegerla de los recuerdos que su actual caso pueda traerle por lo que se ofrece a acompañarla a todos lados, eso lo aprovecha para irse metiendo de nuevo en su mente, en su corazón y obviamente en su cama.

Así que Claire tiene un duro momento al intentar resolver el caso, mientras sufre de pesadillas por los recuerdos de su secuestro, luchando contra la autoridad y crítica de su hermano e intentando mantener a Wes muy lejos para no enamorarse de nuevo y mantenerse lo más completa que pueda.

“Somos una tormenta arremolinada, bebé. Puedes aguantarlo y esperar que algo bueno provenga de ella, o podemos dejar que nos ahogue.

Por lo poco sabor que hemos probado de nosotros, ya puedo decir que nos dirigimos hacia algo especial.”

ACERCA DEL LIBRO

Realmente lo primero que vi en este libro fue su hermosa portada, luego la reseña me dejó cautivada y al abrirlo me di cuenta que iba a ser un muy buen viaje.

Esta historia podría parecerse a muchas otras, pero realmente tiene vida propia, tal vez en poco tiempo suceden muchas cosas y de repente sentí el peso que cargaba Claire sobre los hombros.

También habla de un problema muy grande y horrible como lo es la desaparición de un niño… de verdad trata la historia como es, como algo feo y desastroso, los recuerdos de Claire en algún momento fueron mucho para mí y sufrí con ella al igual que con él niño.

Peeeeero también me encantó Wes, la parte dónde van a la tienda de novias es de mis favoritas, realmente él es un personaje muy humano, no es el típico héroe que salva a la princesa (ella puede salvarse sola, es muy badass) y tiene errores muy humanos… y otros muy tontos que hacen que él NO sea perfecto al 100% en escala de novios literarios, pero si muy muy perfecto para alguien real.

Si te gustan los libros donde el príncipe no siempre rescata a la princesa y te gusta el misterio, este es tu libro, para mi es un 4.5 de 5 estrellas, no puedo esperar por la continuación de esta serie.
