“No, Penny, you’re not my Carissa or Lottie or Kimber.You’re my everything.”

I have struggled with what to say about this book. I enjoyed it, but at the same time I kind of didn't enjoy it.

Blind Kiss tells the story of Penny and Gavin, an unpaired couple that has a unusual start.

She is a dancer who spends all her days rehearsing to graduate, at the same time she has a mother who lives obsessed with her younger sister competing in beauty contests and a dad who loves her but who lives working.
One day a friend invites her (rather bribes her with a few coffee gift cards) to participate in an experiment: Can you have sexual chemistry with someone without knowing what she looks like?

That's where she "knows" Gavin, since he is her experimental partner and they show that yes, you can have chemistry with someone even with eyes closed, when they remove the blindfold Gavin invites her to a date and thus begins his story... well what should be a great love story, but Penny's insecurities and her commitment to dance make her send Gavin directly to the friendzone.

Gavin is a free and impulsive soul, handsome, tall, tattooed, flirtatious and with a great attitude, studying engineering, as well he can be studying, being with a girl or tattooing Penny's phone in his hand. From the first moment he meets her, he realizes that she is the one, so he accepts the friendzone without any problem and follows Penny without hesitation.

Then she makes a decision that changes the routine between the two, she decides to marry someone else, for fourteen years they remain as friends, she becomes a wife, mother and housewife and Gavin continues to have a bunch of girlfriends and this gives back a turn when Gavin decides to move to Paris with his new girlfriend while Penny is depressed because her marriage is falling apart.

“—You’re so beautiful right now. Seeing you like this. I’m happy for you, I really am, but I gotta go, Penny. I can’t be here when Lance gets here.

-Why?

-Because he has everything I want. I gotta go.”

ABOUT THE BOOK

Renée Carlino in this book does what she does best, develops the characters to look real, manages to divide the story into two different eras and everything works, it is a very well written book.

But for me, it's an excess of drama and bad decisions, I can’t understand how someone can send their soul mate to the friendzone for so long, it's just frustrating.

Penny is a character who, despite not being impulsive, makes her decisions based on her insecurities so at the end of her marriage she is not happy, while Gavin has to live seeing how the woman he loves is with someone else, pure torture.

I give it 3 stars because, although it is not my favorite story of Renée, it is a well written book with developed characters, only that the frustration that I had when reading it and wanting to give a few slaps to Penny or Gavin from time to time, make me give it less  points.

He luchado con qué decir sobre este libro. Lo disfruté, pero al mismo tiempo no lo disfruté.

Blind Kiss nos cuenta la historia de Penny y Gavin, una pareja no pareja que tiene un comienzo poco común.

Ella es una bailarina que dedica todo su día a ensayar para poder graduarse, al mismo tiempo tiene una mamá que vive obsesionada con que su hermana menor compita en concursos de belleza y un papá que la adora pero que se la vive trabajando.

Un día una amiga la invita (más bien la soborna con unas cuantas tarjetas de regalo para café) para que participe en un experimento: ¿Puedes tener química sexual con alguien sin saber cómo luce?

Ahí es donde “conoce” a Gavin, ya que él es su compañero de experimento y demuestran que sí, si se puede tener química con alguien aún con ojos cerrados, al quitarles la venda Gavin la invita a salir y así comienza su historia… bueno lo que debería ser una gran historia de amor, pero las inseguridades de Penny y su compromiso con la danza hacen que mande a Gavin directamente a la friendzone.

Gavin es un alma libre e impulsiva, guapo, alto, tatuado, coqueto y con una gran actitud, estudia ingeniería, así como puede estar estudiando, puede estar con una chica o tatuarse el teléfono de Penny en su mano. Desde el primer momento que la conoce se da cuenta que ella es la indicada, así que acepta la friendzone sin problema alguno y sigue a Penny sin dudarlo.

Luego ella toma una decisión que cambia la rutina entre los dos, decide casarse con alguien más, durante catorce años ellos permanecen como amigos, ella se convierte en esposa, madre y ama de casa y Gavin continúa teniendo novias por montones y esto vuelve a dar un giro cuando Gavin decide irse a vivir a París con su nueva novia mientras que Penny está deprimida porque su matrimonio se está desmoronando.

—Estás tan hermosa en este momento. Viéndote así. Estoy feliz por ti, realmente lo soy, pero tengo que irme, Penny. No puedo estar aquí cuando Lance llegue.

—¿Por qué?

—Porque él tiene todo lo que quiero. Debo irme.

ACERCA DEL LIBRO

Renée Carlino en este libro hace lo que mejor sabe hacer, desarrollar a los personajes hasta parecer reales, logra dividir la historia en dos épocas distintas y que todo funcione, es un libro muy bien escrito.

Pero para mí, es un exceso de drama y malas decisiones, no puedo entender como alguien puede mandar a su alma gemela a la friendzone durante tanto tiempo, es simplemente frustrante

Penny es un personaje que, a pesar de no ser impulsiva, toma sus decisiones basándose en sus inseguridades por lo que al final de su matrimonio no es feliz, mientras que Gavin tiene que vivir viendo como la mujer que ama está con alguien más, pura tortura.

Le doy 3 estrellas porque, aunque no es mi historia favorita de Renée, es un libro bien escrito con personajes desarrollados, solo que la frustración que tuve al leerlo y querer darle unas cuantas cachetadas a Penny o a Gavin de vez en cuando, hacen que le reste puntos.

—La vida cambiará y cambiará de nuevo. Solo tienes que encontrar un puerto en esta tormenta. No tiene que ser otra persona. Centavo. Encuentra algo solo para ti.
